1. FOCUS ON
ASIA

Travels won't go off to a flying start in 2021.

As of mid-February 2021 in Southeast Asia, the highest numbers of deaths are recorded in India, Indonesia and the Philippines. However, the death tolls in a number of countries are claimed to be significantly higher than those given in official figures.

After almost a year of closed borders, authorities in Asia appear keen to delay the reopening of borders to at least 2022.

Predictions for an uptick in travel that were made at the end of 2020, as vaccines began to be available, have since dimmed.

Global airline association IATA has outlined a scenario where passenger traffic in 2021 might rise by a mere 13% from the dire levels seen in 2020.

We are seeing in Asia that there are now more domestic travellers than we saw a year ago, which is a natural outcome of the closure of travel borders as a result of the pandemic.
