METHODOLOGY & PROFILE

1. FOCUS ON THAILAND
Five million tourists in 2021?
Thailand has been the first country to register a case outside of China. Thailand succeeds to keep a low number of cases despite two important COVID waves.
The Tourism Industry is one of the pillars of the Thai economy, accounted for 17.7% of the GDP in 2016. The Tourism Authority of Thailand has declared a loss of approximately 65% of tourist arrival in 2020.
The local tourism also has been impacted as several holidays and celebration has been postponed until further notice as well as restriction to travel between provinces.
Thailand plans to open borders with strict control, allowing people tested free from COVID to enter and people vaccinated to avoid quarantine.
Thailand's chief tourism official announced that the country expects to welcome five million tourists in 2021.
