An election full of hope in the Philippines?
According to the Constitution of the Philippines of 1987, the election is held every six years, on the second Monday of May.
Incumbent president Rodrigo Duterte is technically ineligible for re-election. Also, The position of president and vice president are elected separately, thus the two winning candidates could come from different political parties.
Duterte's government continued to maintain high approval ratings despite criticism for its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, during which his approval ratings climbed to a record high level of 91%.
Several high-profile personalities have directly or indirectly hinted at the possibility of running for president or vice president in the 2022 presidential elections. We take a look at how various possible candidates fare in the public eye and how Filipinos perceive the upcoming elections.
