METHODOLOGY & PROFILE

1. FOCUS ON
JAPAN
Controlling the spread without lockdowns.
The "soft" approach from Japan led the population to take responsibility to fight the spread of the virus. This system has allowed the country to control without enforcing full lockdowns.
Japan has fared better than other countries from an economic perspective too. Japanese GDP declined by 7.8% quarter-on-quarter in Q2, compared to -9.7% in Germany and -20.4% in the UK.
The country's death rate per capita from coronavirus is one of the lowest in the developed world, despite its aging population.
Foreign travelers looking to enter Japan will have to wait at least another month, as a total ban on new entries will remain in place through March 7.
