Ambient air pollution is currently a major environmental health hazard in many urban areas across the African continent.
 

The impact of air pollution differs depending on one's social and economic standing: the most vulnerable members of society are also the most exposed and the most affected.

Abidjan possesses an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 74 according to AQICN at the beginning of March 2020, which is considered a "moderate" level of air pollution :
